This was one of the most extraordinary experiences during my time at the local television station “Tele Top”: For the magazine “Top Fokus”, I spent three days behind bars. The opportunity arose during a test run of a new prison in Zurich, where the facility was being tested under real-world conditions before its official opening.

I documented my entire stay on video, resulting in a five-part series. These episodes offer a first-hand look at the realities of the facility—from the confined space of the cell and the food to the daily routine of yard time and the showers. It was a unique challenge to switch perspectives: instead of filming others, I became the subject myself, capturing my own experiences.

Part one

In the first part, I talk about my arrival at the prison, the cell, and the items I have with me in the cell.

Part two

The second part shows the prison yard: there I meet other inmates for the first time.

Part three

In the third part, you see what the food is like and how else you can pass the time in the cell.

Part four

On the second day, I get a cellmate, and for the first time, I am allowed to go to the showers.

Part five

In the final part, I draw a conclusion and leave the prison.
